If you’re unsure about how to set up the rules for your classroom, this is a great place to start! I’ve been teaching middle school for the past 10 years, and these are the rules that I use. Of course, everyone is different, so links to editable PDF and Keynote versions of this file are included.

 

If you’re new to teaching, I would highly recommend beginning the year with a heavy emphasis on expectations. Reward students who are following rules by pointing out the rule and congratulating the student for their compliance. Continue this process until the students could recite the rules in your sleep! This will help you immensely when it comes to enforcing consequences with students who are not meeting your expectation.
