This 20 slide presentation covers everything you need to know for students to begin the basics of weather prediction.
Graphics are used throughout to support student understanding.
This resource is designed to support the following NGSS standard:
MS-ESS2-5. Collect data to provide evidence for how the motions and complex interactions of air masses results in changes in weather conditions.
Topics covered include:
- Types of Air Masses (maritime tropical, maritime polar, continental tropical, continental polar)
- Types of Fronts (warm, cold, stationary, occluded.
- Air Pressure
- Cloud Formation
- Weather Maps & Weather Prediction
On the final page of this presentation, students are prompted to do a CER in which they predict the weather for a location on a map and provide evidence and reasoning for their claim. On that same slide, a link is included to a Google Form version of this CER which can be used for a ticket out the door.
