Famous Scientists Warm Ups and Bell Ringers

Description

Looking for a ways to help your students learn about the history of science? Are you struggling to find ways to make the topics you’re covering in class more personally meaningful? If you answered yes to either of those questions, then this famous scientists warm ups resource is for you!

These bell ringers are designed to familiarize your students with 40 famous scientists (both historic and modern)! Who they are, what they contributed, and how the world would be different without their work. Every Monday, students will be presented with a new scientist and will be asked to:

  • summarize the work of the scientist
  • answer reflective questions about their contributions

This resource is not discipline specific. The purpose of these activities is to spark discussion, inspire future scientists, and improve the relevance of science.

Who is this resource for?

This resource can be used by classroom teachers, tutors, and parents of students in grades 6-12.

How Can I Use this Famous Scientists Warm Ups Resource?

  • Use the slides individually as a warm up or closure activity
  • Print the slides and create a bulletin board
  • Export the slides as PDF and give to students as a reference

Alternative ideas:

  • Extension activity for early finishers or for students who show a special interest
  • Exit tickets
  • Use individual slides as squares on a Choice Board
  • Scavenger hunt – Print slides and hide them around the room for students to find. Great for students who need to be moving!
  • Fishing – Print all the slides and place them in a bowl. Have students come up and “fish” for a new question while throwing their old question back. This is a great activity for students who enjoy being hands on.
  • Sticky Hands – (if you dare) let kids pick cards with sticky hands
  • Have students pull a slice answer it correctly to earn privileges like leave for lunch.
